Tax Assistant

Reporting to the Tax Manager, this role involves working independently as well as within the team, and aiming to achieve personal and team targets on a monthly basis.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of Self-Assessment Tax Returns and computations
  • Handling Corporation Tax compliance matters
  • Advising clients on tax liabilities
  • Assisting clients with their tax compliance obligations
  • Reviewing coding notices
  • Preparing property rental accounts
  • Undertaking research into technical issues on advisory work and summarising findings
  • Assisting in providing tax advice and ad hoc assignments as they arise
  • Developing strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and HMRC
  • Working as part of a team and providing general assistance
  • handling admin tasks in order to meet filing deadlines
  • Liaising with Accounts teams to ensure a high standard of client service

Qualities required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Professional and organised approach to work
  • Practical experience of completing personal Self-Assessment Tax Returns and compliance work
  • Practical experience of using IRIS Accounting software
  • Microsoft skills
  • Flexible approach and enthusiastic team player
  • Working and presenting yourself in line with our brand values and personality

Study support will be provided for ATT and CTA exams.

VAT Assistant

Reporting to the VAT Manager, this role involves  processing and filing Quarterly VAT Returns for clients.  It will entail preparation and filing of the VAT returns, plus some bookkeeping for companies, partnerships and sole trader clients.

Key tasks and responsibilites

  • Contacting a portfolio of clients via phone and email
  • Liaising internally with other departments regarding client matters
  • Contacting HMRC and other professional firms
  • Responding to client queries in line with our brand values
  • Processing and filing quarterly VAT returns
  • Assisting team members
  • Ad hoc assistance within the firm
  • Working towards personal and team targets on a monthly basis
  • Working independently as well as part of a team.

Qualities required

  • AAT qualified/ICB qualified or almost completed
  • Experience with VAT preparation and bookkeeping is essential
  • Organisational skills and good time management
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of dealing with clients on a face to face basis
  • Thorough knowledge of Making Tax Digital rules
  • Knowledge of accounting software packages such as Iris, Xero, Kashflow, Freeagent etc.
  • Strong computer skills: Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook
  • Working and presenting yourself in line with our brand values and personality

Client Relationship Manager

An opportunity has arisen to work in an enterprising and progressive accountancy practice where you will have exposure to a varied and interesting client base. As a Client Relationship Manager, you will be either a qualified or part-qualified accountant.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Preparation of accounts, CT600, personal tax returns for companies, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Direct management of a portfolio of clients which will involve regular meetings and liaising with other departments on client matters.
  • Contact with HMRC and other professional firms.
  • Handling clients’ queries.
  • Ad hoc work such as forecasting, management accounts and budgeting.
  • Working towards targets on a monthly basis, including management of your personal and junior team member targets.
  • Reporting directly to department heads.

Qualities required

  • ideally fully qualified with a recognisable accounting qualification
  • Experience with accounts preparation from prime records to completion
  • Managerial experience
  • Organisational skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Financial Reporting Standards
  • Experience with dealing with clients on a face to face basis
  • Knowledge of accounting software packages such as Iris
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Excel
  • Spending time creating a personal experience for the client, and building relationships
  • Making sure you are representing all of Nordens values/personality
