Have your good intentions fallen by the wayside?

We’re a month into the new year, and we’ve reached that time when people’s good intentions regarding their businesses tend to fall apart.  So,  here’s some straightforward guidance to make sure you continue working towards solid goals to get you through the next eleven months.

Research has shown that 80% of resolutions fail by the middle of February, which is poor by any standards. There are often multiple reasons (or excuses!) for not seeing these through; some of the most common include:

1. Goals being too ambitious – Unachievable goals can demotivate you quickly and make it very difficult to through when you hit a challenging period.

Make sure your business goals are SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.

2. Goals not being ambitious enough – On the flip side, sometimes goals are so achievable they lead you to being bored and lose interest.

Be realistic about what you want to achieve, then work backwards!

3. Goals not being specific enough – Makes them difficult to measure and too subjective.

Know exactly what you’re aiming for to make your business a success.

4. Not wanting it enough – It is easy to jump on the new year’s resolution bandwagon only to realise you do not have the true desire to achieve your goal.

Know what you really want to achieve.

To reach any meaningful goal you need to have not only a burning desire, but a commitment to push through on those days when it is tough and much easier to just say “I’ll give it a miss today.”

“Pushing through” will take you out of your comfort zone and you might feel uncomfortable, so it’s vital that your goal is meaningful enough for you to withstand this pressure. One of the key components of achieving your goals is being held accountable as, once your goal is disclosed to someone, you automatically feel an additional sense of responsibility. We can help with that!
